Research suggests, the more young people come into contact with employers whilst they are at school, the less likely they are to go on to be unemployed.

The research 'It's who you meet: why employer contacts at school make a difference to the employment prospects of young adults' by the charity the Education and Employers Taskforce is based on a survey undertaken pro-bono by YouGov which asked young adults aged 19-24 about their current employment status and to reflect on their experiences of the world of work whist they were at school.

Pupils who took part in four or more activities with employers were five times less likley to drop out of school or training the report says.

Activities included work experience, visits and enterprise competition.

Small scale contact with employers, such as visits from professionals to a school, was found to have a big impact on youne people's prospects.

The reports author, Dr Anthony Mann also added that many young people who took part in work experience went on to get part-time jobs at those places.
