Local entrepreneurial couple help schools celebrate their success in Work Related Learning
Schools across Devon and Cornwall demonstrated and celebrated their Work Related Learning success in style in at St Mellion International Resort.
The schools had undertaken the rigorous Investors in Work Related and Enterprise Learning (IiWREL) Award. The Quality Standards Framework that lies behind these awards helps schools in Devon and Cornwall to audit and monitor their Work Related and Enterprise work and their links with business and the wider community.
Hugely successful local entrepreneurial couple, Sally Hurst of The Old Bag Company and Nick Hurst of Burts Chips inspired the audience with their tales of the motivation for starting their business’ to growing them into the successful enterprises that they are today.
Equally as successful in their own right were the students showcasing the work that they had produced. On show were a vibrant array of school stands demonstrating the work that they produced over the course of the year.
From school grown carrots, to luminous toaster pickers and life size papier-mâché figures and driftwood mirrors, the range was fantastic. The enthusiasm that went in to the work was clearly visible and inspiring.
Also, celebrated for their commitment to working with schools were Ashfords LLP, Palm FM, Cowlin Construction Ltd and PFA Research Ltd. STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths) Ambassadors were also awarded certificates for their commitment to inspiring young people as well as 4 outstanding work experience students for success during their placements.
