Get involved with Education

If your organisation or business is keen to support young people through work related learning, there are many ways in which you can contribute and make a difference to the work force of tomorrow:

Hosting a Work Experience placement

If your company or organisation is interested in hosting a work experience placement for a secondary school student, in the first instance please contact us to log your interest and we will put you in contact with a local school.

Through the Diploma

The Diploma is a qualification for 14-19 year olds. It has been designed by employers for employers so that young people are better prepared for work.

Benefits to you as an employer are:

  • a more effective way to recruit for the future
  • a development opportunity for you and your staff
  • an opportunity to help young people develop work-relevant skills and an understanding of how businesses operate
  • an improved skills base is vital to delivering more productive and profitable private companies and better performing public services across Devon and Torbay.

By becoming a STEM Ambassador

Volunteering as a STEM Ambassador is your chance to promote your skills to young learners, actively encouraging them to enjoy STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths) subjects, and inform them about the unique career opportunities that are available to them. By volunteering as an Ambassador, you could be opening up life-changing opportunities for many young people in your area.

Anyone who has a desire to inspire children and young people in STEM subjects can become an Ambassador. The main qualities that all Ambassadors share are enthusiasm and commitment, along with a passion for what they do.

For further information on becoming a STEM Ambassador visit the STEMNET website, or go to the STEM ambassador page on this website.

By becoming a CREST Mentor

CREST is the nationwide curriculum enrichment award scheme for STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths).  CREST provides a seamless award scheme for 5-19 year olds designed to recognise achievement and develop skills, knowledge and interest in STEM.

CREST Mentors play a vital role in developing tomorrow's talent. CREST mentors lead intelligent and enthusiastic students – gaining hands-on management experience and engaging with your local community in the process. They might act as an 'expert witness', providing information and/or resources and help students develop their ideas and guide them as they look at their results.

For further information on becoming a CREST Mentor, visit the British Science Association Website, or go to the CREST page on this website.

Business Mentoring

"A one-to-one, non-judgemental relationship in which an individual voluntarily gives time to support and encourage another. This relationship is typically developed at a time for transition in the mentee's life and lasts for a significant and sustained period"
