Broaden your horizons AND help local schools

Jul 14, 2010

Would you like to help local children by becoming a school governor in Devon?

National charity School Governors’ One-Stop Shop (SGOSS) have teamed up with schools in Devon to encourage local people to become school governors. It is an excellent way to get involved in the community, learn new skills and help a school in your area.

There are governor vacancies in schools across Devon, particularly East Devon so you won’t need to travel far.

You do NOT need to be a parent to volunteer and FREE training is available to build personal skills, boost self confidence and get you ready for this very rewarding and exciting role.

Governing bodies work with the head teacher to make managerial decisions on a range of topics, including curriculum, budget and staffing. You don't need to have any qualifications but you do need to be over 18, and have an interest in education. The commitment is an average of 2 - 4 meetings a term (mostly evenings), less than you might think!

If you are interested in volunteering, please do not hesitate to contact Laura Garland at the School Governors' One-Stop Shop, on 020 7354 9805, or email: laura.garland@sgoss.org.uk

For more information please see www.sgoss.org.uk, where you can also apply online.
