Kick for Children with Cancer 2010
As Football Manager for the UK's leading children's cancer charity, CLIC Sargent, this is a really exciting time for me. Not only has our annual schools event, Kick for children with Cancer, begun, but the World Cup is well underway. Happy days!
Whilst England's World Cup tournament has got off to a slow start in South Africa with a 1-1 draw against a resolute USA, CLIC Sargent's own football event, Kick for Children with Cancer, has officially kicked off to a great start...
This summer 125,000 children and young people from schools, colleges and youth football clubs across the UK are taking part in Kick for Children with Cancer 2010. It’s a fundraising event led by CLIC Sargent, where schools hold a football themed event to raise funds for children with cancer.
The response from Devon has been amazing! Over 10,000 children in the county will be kicking a ball to raise funds for CLIC Sargent. Many are making the most of the World Cup frenzy which has swept England and are organising sponsored penalty shoot outs or world cup style tournaments. Anything to get kids even more excited by and involved in the FIFA World Cup, with the added benefit of doing some good at the same time.
Kick for Children with Cancer runs from May –July so there’s no better time for teachers and club leaders to sign up for a totally FREE fundraising pack. This will contain everything that’s needed to organise a fantastic football fundraising event i.e. sponsor forms, stickers, event pack with ideas and lot lots more. If these months aren’t suitable then that’s no problem. Just choose a date which is more suitable. Oh and you can choose any event you like…just as long as it involves a football!
As Football Manager a lot of people ask me who my money is on to lift the trophy. Of course I am behind England, but word on the grapevine (and straight from the mouth of a very famous ex footballer who supports our charity!) is that Spain is the most likely to emerge victorious in July. So who do you think will win the World Cup 2010? I was comforted to find out that in the 1966 World Cup when England were victorious that we had drew in that first game also. By no means are we ruled out.
Over the next four weeks, there will be highs, lows, goals, saves, doubts and tears. And someone is going to lift the trophy. Who do you think will win? What activities will you be doing to get your school involved?
If you are one of the schools already signed up in Devon to hold a Kick for Children with Cancer event then please me know what you are doing on here and how you got on. I’d love to hear about it!
If you’d like to get your school involved in Kick for Children with Cancer and the surrounding World Cup excitement by holding your own football fundraising event, then visit www.clicsargent.org.uk/football for more information and to sign up online today!
