Nuffield Bursary Students at Torbay Hospital

Personal reflection on the 22 Nuffield 6th form Bursary students at Torbay Hospital, 2009 and 2010. From Dr Richard Paisey consultant physician.

Many thanks to all my colleagues for making projects available and supervising them. Special thanks to my secretary Cheryl for her calm, assured and very professional liaison work. This enabled the students to integrate with staff, find their way around, and complete Trust induction and IT training before commencing the projects.

  

We hope we helped them understand the medicine and science involved in such diverse fields as thyroid cancer, diabetic neuropathy and treatment of retinal diseases. Many Malapropisms   were devised en route!  The students’ IT skills turned out to be awesome!  The best policy for reviewing their work turned out to be that they sat on their hands between slides when discussing the work as our brains couldn’t keep up with the rapid fire delivery.

We look forward to another group of students next year.
