Football and Art
On 2nd August, Yvonne, Kathy and I visited Exeter City FC for the club's official 2010/11 photo call. Before descending on the pitch to take part in the sponsor's photograph, we enjoyed a lunch in the Flybe suite, followed by viewing the club's official photograph from the stand. We then met Aaron Dawson, our newly signed player we are sponsoring for a quick chat and photograph. Aaron has been playing football seriously since he was twelve and was a student at Exmouth Community College.
Not being a football fan it was only the second time I had been to a football ground and I was impressed with the hospitality provided and close proximity to the city centre. Most impressive were the photographs and artwork featured on the internal walls of the club, in particular work created by a Devon school. DEBP sparked the idea for a joint project between the club, Torbay Creative and Media Diploma and Brixham College to create a piece of work focusing on the community and history of the football club. The hugely colourful multi media pieces were featured on a red and white stripped wall, representing Exeter City’s colours and were fabulous. Robert Paddon, Sales and Marketing Assistant at the club who worked on the project said “I was absolutely delighted to work with Jason Haines and the pupils at Brixham College, who designed and created some fantastic pieces of artwork for our corporate corridor. Feedback from fans has been great, with everyone having different favourite pieces of artwork. I would like to thank the DEBP for putting both parties together, and I hope we can continue participation in educational partnerships alongside the DEBP.”
